Hema Upadhyay studied BFA and MFA at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University, Baroda. She has been a part of several national and international exhibitions, workshops and residencies, the prominent being held at France, Singapore, USA, Karachi and Sydney. She uses photography and sculptural installations to explore notions of personal identity, dislocation, bnostalgia and gender. She was awarded the Tenth Indian Triennial National Scholarship and the Gujrat State Award. She lives and works in Mumbai.
